60-minute timer (1 hour)

01:00:00
Ready to start

Tip: the space bar starts and pauses. The remaining time also shows in the tab title.

An hour is the most familiar block on any calendar: meetings, lessons, appointments, workouts and study sessions. Press Start, watch the time run in hours, minutes and seconds and let the alarm tell you when the 60 minutes are done.

An hour of focus: how to use it

A 60-minute session needs structure or it dissolves. Instead of "work for an hour", split it into short phases: 5 minutes of preparation, two 25-minute focus periods and 5 minutes to close out and note what is left. If you prefer built-in breaks, use cycles of 50 minutes of work and 10 of rest. Some productivity studies point to well-performing groups working in cycles of around 52 minutes with 17 of rest, but the essential thing is to find the rhythm that suits your task and respect it.

One-hour meetings

The full hour is the calendar default, which is exactly why it is the most often wasted. Try ending the meeting at 50 minutes: the 10-minute gap lets people reach their next room. In a 60-minute agenda, reserve 5 to open, 40 for the main topics, 10 for decisions and 5 of slack. Showing the timer full screen helps the group stay aware of time.

Training and sport

Study, languages and music

An hour a day of language or instrument practice pays off more than five sporadic hours on the weekend, because memory benefits from spaced repetition. Split the hour into parts: 10 minutes of review, 30 of new material, 15 of active practice (speaking, playing, writing) and 5 of notes. Keep the timer visible and adjust the time at the end of each stage if needed.

Waiting times and household tasks

Never miss the hour

For fixed commitments such as a video call, start the timer with a few minutes of slack and use the alert to get ready. If you are unsure about the time in another city, check the meeting planner on this site before scheduling.

For whole-hour durations, the display automatically switches to HH:MM:SS. You can adjust the time one minute at a time and follow the remainder in the tab title.

Frequently asked questions

How does the 60-minute timer work?

Press Start to count from 01:00:00 down to zero. At the end an alarm sounds repeatedly until you press Stop alarm.

Does the display show hours?

Yes. For times of 60 minutes or more the display uses hours:minutes:seconds. Under an hour it shows just minutes and seconds.

What is the best work rhythm in an hour?

It depends on the task. Two 25-minute sessions with a short break, or 50 minutes with 10 of rest, are common arrangements.

Can I end the meeting at 50 minutes?

You can, and it is usually good practice. The final 10 minutes give people time to move and breathe between commitments.

Does the time keep going if my computer sleeps?

If the computer goes to sleep, the browser may pause the countdown. Keep the device awake; the page tries to prevent the screen from dimming.

Can I follow it from another tab?

Yes, the remaining time appears in the tab title and the alarm sounds even with the tab in the background.
